To Build A Home #3

After planning and outlining for weeks, Sam, Charl, and I finally met today to execute our ideas about this project. We met at around 2:30 PM as we required a few hours to draw the heart on Charl’s back and some room for trial and error. Armed with loads of different types of eyeliners, Sam began to freehand draw the heart. I am barely an artist myself, so through the process of the drawing, I was only there to help shade and outline. Otherwise, I was preparing all the props that were needed for the photography aspects of the project. We finished the heart drawing at around 4 PM and saw that it was cloudy and overcast outside. Realizing this, we hastily packed up all of our materials and rushed to the location we would be shooting at, an abandoned house in a neighboring community. There couldn’t have been better lighting for the shoot as it was slightly overcast, but still bright outside. Lighting is always extremely important for shoots, so we were very thankful for this. After reaching the house, we unpacked and opened all our bags and began to shoot. We worked with the architecture of the house and also used various cloths to achieve different effects. While we were shooting, Sam actually told us a short scary myth of an old man who disappeared outside of the house while he was selling noodles a few years ago. (Thanks a lot, Sam). Me, being the extremely superstitious one got pretty frightened, and after taking a few more shots, decided that it was “getting dark outside” and there were “too many mosquitoes”. After getting back to my house, Sam and I sadly watched as we used makeup remover to get rid of our artwork from Charl’s back. It was a completely new and fun experience for me (no matter how many mosquitoes there were), and I hope to get some good pictures!
